Midlands Food Bank Newsletter 2nd edition

South Africa has been in lockdown for over 2 months now. For those of you who don’t know, the Midlands Food Bank was born at the beginning of COVID-19 to help alleviate pressure to the poor and needy during this historic pandemic.

On the 23rd of May we had our second food distribution, we fed hundreds of families in Lidgetton Valley as well as in Curry’s Post once again. None of this would have been possible without our committed donors and enthusiastic volunteers. We have crossed paths with Simcelisle Educare, as well as a few other preprimary schools in Lidgetton Valley. We donated just over 100 parcels to the schools to lend a helping hand to our fellow neighbor.

A special thank you goes out to our volunteers who are always more than willing to help. It’s beautiful to see families coming out together to make a difference in the community. We also had an overflow of young teenagers coming out to help pack food parcels, load trucks and distribute the food. These youngsters are learning what the true spirit of Ubuntu means, they are our next generation. Last but not least we want to thank the older generations who have come out to help time and time again. It’s inspiring to see that these people won’t let age stand in their way of serving the community. An exciting new project is on the horizon for us! We are giving the well-known bridge of Lidgetton a deserving makeover on the 20. of June. Our heart is to see Lidgetton Valley clean, we want to be proud of where we live. We have been selling shares of R250 per share to people of our community to get involved in our bridge project. The money will be used to buy paint, cleaning supplies etc. to give this bridge the makeover it deserves. Any donations of paint/brushes/supplies and money would be welcomed with open arms. (Please see Zapper code below for easy donations)

Our next food drive will be focusing on the hospitality industry as they are still in lockdown, and no one can tell when they will be able to resume to normal operation again. If you are aware of any hospitality industries who may need our help, please contact us via email and we will gladly lend a helping hand. Thank you for your support and being part of us. We want to give thanks to God for blessing us with the right people to be part of us, and making a difference where we can. Please look after yourselves and stay safe!
